World Earth Day 2022: Our favourite everyday earth-friendly design.
Today, April 22nd marks World Earth Day. This landmark promotes the support of environmental protection across the globe.
In our day to day lives, we all have the potential to make better choices for the environment, however, this can become daunting, and overwhelming, and when we live busy lives, falling back into the same pattern is usually the more tempting option.
To help us tackle this somewhat, innovators have come up with new systems and products that can help us easily move in a more sustainable direction.
As design lovers, we want to take World Earth Day as a way to celebrate these designs and showcase some of our favourite sustainable designs out there. Take a look at our shortlist below! Maybe there is something in there that will work for you
Hydrophil - Sustainable Dental Products

Let’s face it, dental hygiene is a priority for everyone, so sustainability isn’t always the first thing that crosses our minds when we go to replace our plastic toothbrushes.
Luckily, Hydrophil, a German-based company has done the thinking for us, releasing the first climate-neutral toothbrush in Europe. With a simple, slick, wooden appearance, their toothbrushes are affordable and made from biodegradable Moso bamboo. We love the thought and care that has gone into both the appearance and sustainable design of this everyday, essential product.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products | Blueland

Cleaning our homes is another essential part of life that often gets overlooked when it comes to taking care of the planet. Cleaning products can be packed with harmful chemicals, and the packaging is almost always made out of unrecyclable materials. Blueland, founded by Sarah Paji, has a mission of making it ‘easy to be eco with innovative products in reusable packaging that are convenient, effective and affordable.
This carefully thought out design is truly revolutionary. Bottles that hold a specific cleaning product, are bought just once and following that, you can drop in the appropriate cleaning tablet, fill the bottle with water, and instantly create a cleaning product. Aside from the strong environmental positivity, the aesthetic of these products is also beautiful, and the products are simple and easy to use - top marks for design from us!

EcoBrotbox has the vision to eliminate plastic wherever possible, and so they have designed a beautiful range of food containers, substituting the plastic we are used to carrying our food in, with stainless steel.
Their range of lunchboxes, drinking bottles etc make plastic, aluminium or cardboard packaging unnecessary and can eventually be recycled should they need to be thrown away in future. The make-up of the products is sturdy, and visually they are very unique, making for a well rounded earth-friendly design!

Of course, you can’t always guarantee that boxes alone will cut it when it comes to food storage, oftentimes we need some cling film, tin foil etc for extra freshness. Unfortunately, these materials are not eco-friendly and disposable.
Companies like Beeswrap, have cleverly innovated a replacement to these materials, using beeswax and vegan alternatives, that are biodegradable, multi-useable and visually appealing with a country picnic look and feel. If you are a packed lunch fanatic and find yourself throwing away tonnes of one-use clingfilm and tin-foil, this is one product you can switch to, to help make a step in the right direction.
Making small changes, and finding what is right for you!
There are thousands of companies across the globe doing incredible work, just like the designs mentioned above. The opportunity to switch up your living habits and make an ecological improvement can be made simple, as always by brilliant design. Have you found something that works for you, or have you designed your own hack? Let us know!
